Invictus
poem by: William Ernest Henley
Out of the dark that covers me
Black as the Pit from pole to pole
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate
How charged with punishment the scroll
I am the master of my fate
I am the captain of my soul.
I seriously LOVE that poem. I'm not sure why exactly. I just remember reading it with my best friend Bryanna at the beginning of 8th grade. She said something about it and how it was really cool. Than we decided to use the word Invictus in the title of our book I AM INVICTUS. So I have been trying to find that poem for a while and I finally found it. So there you have it. I love that poem and I hope some other people like poetry like I do.
